About: Kawaii – what is it?
In short terms, kawaii (pronounced "Kah-Wah-Yee") is Japanese for cute. It’s said to be the foremost important attitude for a Japanese girl, and it has spread to the Western world too. Kawaii websites often have a pixel theme with lots of pixel art to look at or snag for your own website (with links back, of course!). Some have the owner’s blog (journal/diary) as the main subject, and some are strictly for offering different graphics like wallpapers, buddy icons, layouts, blank buttons or other stuff.
If you want to explore the world of kawaii these link lists are great places to start:
To "adopt" is a huge fad in the world of kawaii pixel art. To adopt an item means to show off somebody else’s work at your own site, with a link to the artist. Itty bitty adopted pixel items are often put in separate pages or popups called "Toy Box". Dolls are also pretty popular to adopt, blinkies and other stuff too. Some even put up adoption web rings, where you have to contribute to take part – this is a nice way of getting to know other pixel people!
The most known trading ring still active is The Quilting Bee
